Happy Pi Day!

Happy Pi Day! (March 14 – 3/14 is like 3.14)

Celebrate all things Pi! At work you can celebrate with a pot-luck style pie contest! You can sell slices of donated pies for a buck or two each and use the proceeds to benefit your company’s STEM program! For more ideas, visit the Pi Day website.

My favorite idea is to hold a “PI-ku” poetry writing competition. Like a haiku, this form of poetry follows certain structural rules and must be themed around numbers, mathematics, or pi. The PI-ku structure is:
First line – 3 syllables
Second line – 14 syllables
Third line – 15 syllables
Fourth line – 9 syllables

Here’s my PI-ku for this day:

On this day, (3 syllables)
I’ll consider the concept of a common math symbol. (14 syllables)
Compare a circle’s circumference to its diameter; (15 syllables)
You’ll find PI every single time. (9 syllables)

Try it! Enter your PI-ku in the comments below.
