“Always desire to learn something useful.” – Sophocles
I love this quote because of its application in all aspects of life. Every day on this planet, there are opportunities to learn something if we take advantage of it. The thing that prevents learning is an “I already know” mentality. If you aren’t curious, if you don’t wonder, if you never ask, the opportunities to learn will not be present.
Leaders need to value the concept of curiosity, because it is important to continue to learn when you’re leading others. Yes, it is important that your direct reports believe in your skills as a leader, but situational humility and incessant curiosity are also valuable. You set an excellent example for your people by continuing to learn, so they will continue to learn, too.
